Online Safety for all

While training a group of elderly people on cyber security, data privacy and all, it was a unique opportunity with challenges. A good teacher, has the ability to pass useful information that inspires a (positive) change.

Click on trusted links, have complex passwords, set up 2 factor authentication, keep financial details confidential, delete suspicious mails, read about security news once in a while

I did these:

1. Simplified the terminologies (blackhat hacking equals masked armed robbers entering your smarthouse, phone, laptop or car, as examples of IoTs)

2. I turned case studies and precedents into stories, ‘the lady who clicked on a link that was sent in her mail’ ‘the man who clicked a link in a message for Canadian visa, but the link didn’t have the HTTPS nor an official domain extension’ and more. The stories held them hooked.

3. I demonstrated the practical steps on the screens, ‘ download and open this app, click this, type this and so on’. However you carry out your activities online, always stay safe and help your loved ones also stay safe.

Stay safe.
